Below we have tried to answer some Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I’ve never done a Martial Art before, so how do I know if it’s for me? A: You don’t know until you try, that’s why we offer free lessons to help you decide.
Q: I’m not very fit/flexible so will I be able to join in? A: Taekwon-Do training builds over time, so as your fitness improves so do the challenges of the class.
Q: How many Instructors are there? A: At Swindon Taekwondo we have 3 qualified Instructors and 2 qualified assistant Instructors. All Instructors are CRB checked and are first aid qualified, we also have public liability insurance.
Q: How often can I train? A: To start with classes are one hour, twice per week at the Haydon Centre, when you are ready you may attend additional classes at no extra cost.
Q: What equipment will I need to train? A: To start with you will need just a pair of track suit bottoms and a T-shirt. Once you have decided to join you buy your training Suit (Dobuk). After three to six months (earlier if you wish) you will need to purchase sparring safety equipment.
Q: Is it dangerous? A: Any Martial Art has risks, but we have trained instructors and have carried out health and safety risk assessments, as a result Taekwon-do is a low risk activity.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract or Direct Debit mandate? A: We do not use a contract based fee system; fees are paid monthly by cheque. We want you to train because you like to and not because you are financially committed to.
Q: Is there a joining fee? A: You can pay a joining fee which includes a suit (Dobuk) with a white belt, a Licence (including annual Insurance cover) and one months training, you will thereafter pay a monthly fee to train. Family reductions apply.
Q: What ages do you teach? A: Students aged 5 and over will be considered on an individual basis, there is no upper age limit as everybody has different capabilities.
Q: When can I grade? A: We hold coloured belt gradings approximately every 3 months.
Q: When can I come along? A: New students are welcome at the Haydon Centre every Monday and Thursday.
Q: Can we train with our children? A: Taekwon-Do is a great family activity, but parents be warned children often pick techniques up quicker than you so they might surpass you to start with. |
