Coloured belt gradings are held approximately every 3 months. Students have to pay a fee and be eligible to grade. Grading times vary and MWTA minimum waiting periods are listed below.

 

Beginners (10th kups) must train for at least 1 month prior to grading

9th kups must train for at least 1 month between gradings

8th kups must train for at least 2 months between gradings

7th kups must train for at least 2 months between gradings

6th kups must train for at least 3 months between gradings

5th kups must train for at least 3 months between gradings

4th kups must train for at least 4 months between gradings

3rd kups must train for at least 4 months between gradings

2nd kups must train for at least 5 months between gradings

1st kups must train for at least 5 months between gradings

 

On reaching Black Belt minimum waiting periods are:

1st Dan to 2nd Dan 18 months

2nd Dan to 3rd Dan 24 months

3rd Dan to 4th Dan 36 months

 

Gradings require floorwork and theory to be learned and performed on the night and a written exam paper to be completed and handed in beforehand.
